Hello,
I was referred to you by a friend.
To start, I was adopted from Korea to the US at 3 months old. I renounced my Korean citizenship then for my US citizenship, February 2003. I finally flew out to Korea for the first time in October 2020 and found my birth family as well as getting my F4 visa, now expired 11/2023 due to hardship, which I'll explain below.
Anyway, the hardship involved being manipulated into a court issue back February 2022. I now have a criminal record with a felony, and never committed any crime ever previously. The good news is my sentencing was a very good outcome back on 9/11/2025 and I have only 2 years probation, while the US government now understands my side of the story.
I'm honestly toggling between April 2026 and September 2027. As I did more research and am formulating a good explanation for probation, I think I found a way of coming sooner than later.
With all of this being said,
1. Is there a way to communicate correctly to the Korean government about my criminal record, that I really didn’t do the crime, and still be qualified through this dual citizenship process?
2. Also, I need to renew my F4 visa first in Korea before dual citizenship, right?
3. If so and after F4 renewal, for Dual Citizenship I was told in an AI search that I could do the following while staying in the US by going to my nearest consulate, right? Here's the link:
https://www.google.com/search?q=as+a+korean+american+adoptee+as+a+us+citizen+can+I+get+dual+citizenship+for+Korea+within+the+united+states&sca_esv=df783cd413716f53&sxsrf=AE3TifMJkS4B44EzBRocK6URO5nxweUEPg%3A1760543033705&ei=OcHvaMHoKuaRur8PppfC0QM&ved=0ahUKEwiB6YrxxaaQAxXmiO4BHaaLMDoQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=as+a+korean+american+adoptee+as+a+us+citizen+can+I+get+dual+citizenship+for+Korea+within+the+united+states&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiamFzIGEga29yZWFuIGFtZXJpY2FuIGFkb3B0ZWUgYXMgYSB1cyBjaXRpemVuIGNhbiBJIGdldCBkdWFsIGNpdGl6ZW5zaGlwIGZvciBLb3JlYSB3aXRoaW4gdGhlIHVuaXRlZCBzdGF0ZXNIAFAAWABwAHgBkAEAmAEAoAEAqgEAuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIAoAIAmAMAkgcAoAcAsgcAuAcAwgcAyAcA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp
So based on what I said above, are my chronological steps correct below?
1. Renewing my F4 Visa (staying in Korea for 3 months. Same as I did in October 2020)
2. Go to my nearest Korean Consulate in the US, and apply for dual citizenship.
3. In 18-24 months, receive Dual Citizenship and go under oath.
Please let me know via email. Nice to meet you guys. Thank you.
